Some sun and typical early-June temperatures show up

High temperatures Monday reached 74 degrees in Alpena, 70 degrees in Rogers City, Michigan and 74 degrees in West Branch, Michigan. These temperatures are typical for the end of May to early June, normal highs are in the lower 70s. Temperatures will gradually trend upward over the next couple days, then become much hotter late-week.

Clusters of thunderstorms have produced strong winds and hail in parts of the Upper Peninsula. These showers are trying to advance east, but they are falling apart as they run into drier air. So, our forecast remains dry overnight and into the next few days. Clearing over Minnesota and North Dakota will provide periods of sun over Northeast Michigan throughout Tuesday.

High temperatures Tuesday afternoon will reach about 74 degrees. Highs will also be in the middle 70s Wednesday. Temperatures will nudge upward slightly on Thursday. Winds coming from the south-southwest will bring hotter temperatures Friday through the weekend. Temperatures will rise to around 83 degrees Friday, then warmer Saturday.

The long-range temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a high chance of above-normal temperatures. The map below shows the likelihood of temperatures running above or below “normal” over the period of June 5-9. It’s going to feel much more like summer from the weekend into early next week.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Predawn temperatures will drop to about 48 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the middle 60s. Afternoon highs will get close to 74 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the 60s to middle 50s.

Wednesday: Becoming mostly cloudy. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 48 degrees. Temperatures will climb to the middle/upper 60s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach about 75 degrees. Evening temperatures will head to the 60s.

Thursday: Mix of sun and clouds. Early-morning lows will be close to 51 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to around 76 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 60s.
