Snow tonight; Drier and cool Friday

High temperatures today reached the lower 40s for most areas along the Lake Huron shoreline, so it was warm enough for rain until about sunset. Farther west, high temperatures reached only the middle 30s where a mix of rain and snow was falling much of the day. High temperatures will get slightly cooler tomorrow.

The storm system affecting our area is currently centered just north of Cleveland, and is moving toward the northeast. The position of the storm system is bringing winds circulating around it out of the north to our area. The moisture coming up from the south is interacting with air that’s getting colder and resulting in a changeover to snow this evening, and snow showers are likely overnight.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for almost all of Northern Michigan until 5 a.m. Friday. For most places shaded in gray, 1-3 inches of snowfall are expected and winds will gust up to 30 mph. The snow will shift northeast of our area and drier conditions will move in tomorrow morning.

Low temperatures overnight will cool the upper 20s. Mostly cloudy skies are expected during the day tomorrow with high temperatures close to 40 degrees. Winds will ease tomorrow afternoon, settling near 10 mph out of the west. The next chance of flurries will begin tomorrow night.

For Friday, we will see mostly cloudy skies and high temperatures will get close to 40 degrees. Scattered snow showers/mixed precipitation is expected on Saturday with a weak disturbance from the Upper Plains coming in to our area. Sunday is looking mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 40s. A chance of mixed precipitation or rain showers will move in Monday and continue into Tuesday. High temperatures early next week will reach the lower to middle 40s.
