Snow showers New Year’s Eve; Brighter New Year’s Day

High temperatures today were in the upper 30s across Northeast Michigan. Gusty winds from the southwest brought temperatures warmer than normal today. Tomorrow, winds out of the west will bring in colder air from the Upper Plains.

Today started with rain near Lake Michigan, snow along M-33 and points west. A dry slot pushed in from the south, but snow showers are expected in the late-evening and nighttime hours. Scattered snow showers will continue into tomorrow afternoon.

Snowfall amounts tonight through Tuesday will total 1-3 inches for the areas shaded in blue, including Alpena, Harrisville and Oscoda. 3-5 inches of snow are possible for the areas shaded in purple, including Atlanta and Mio.

Scattered snow showers will continue Tuesday morning and afternoon. Morning temperatures will be near 30 degrees and afternoon highs will reach about 33 degrees. At midnight, cloudy skies are expected with a temperature near 27 degrees to ring in the new year. January 1 will have a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures near 33 degrees.

High temperatures will reach the lower to middle 30s both Tuesday and Wednesday. Skies will be brighter on New Year’s Day and dry weather will last through Thursday. Warmer temperatures will move in Thursday, climbing to the lower 40s. A chance of rain will develop by Friday afternoon.
