Slapstick Comedy Tour takes over Northern Lights Arena Friday

Darren McCarty will perform on Friday night at the Northern Lights Arena. Proceeds benefit the Northern Lights Arena Community.

Alpena — Former Detroit Red Wings hockey legend Darren McCarty will bring his slapstick humor to the Northern Lights Arena on Friday night.

The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Northern Lights Arena. Folks can get a nice barbecue dinner, bid on auction items, listen to music by Steve Rea, and enjoy 120 minutes of pure comedy. McCarty is on tour with a few friends, delivering his stand-up routine and sharing funny stories from the ice.

“We have all sorts of events that happen here all the time,” said Events and Operations Manager Keli Werda. “This one, as a fundraiser, Darren McCarty, the history with the alumni game, and anybody and everybody whose been a hockey fan, and is or is not a Darren McCarty fan can appreciate some of the things he did for the Red Wings, so I think there will be a good draw.”

The event benefits the Northern Lights Arena’s operating fund. It also helps provide funding for community programs and programs that teach youth to learn to skate. At the end, the audience can ask questions of McCarty. There will be a private meet and greet after the show where fans can take pictures and meet the legend. The set is rated PG-13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Folks can bid on auction items throughout the night.

Tickets are $35 a piece or $50 per couple. A table for 8 is $225. Tickets can be purchased at the Northern Lights Arena, Franks Key & Lock Shop, or The Drug Store.
