Showers arrive Saturday afternoon; Cool and brighter Sunday

Out ahead of the next storm system, mostly cloudy skies will last through tonight and Saturday morning. A low pressure system near the Minnesota-Iowa border and its cold front will bring showers to our area Saturday afternoon and evening. It’ll be cold enough for snow in parts of the Upper Peninsula, but that should stay away from Northeast (Lower) Michigan. Behind the cold front, colder temperatures will move in Sunday.

Saturday will begin with dry weather, lasting to midday. Then the chance of showers will increase in the afternoon, and remain between medium and high from the late-afternoon through the evening.

High temperatures Friday got up to 67 degrees in Alpena and 66 degrees in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. But Minneapolis had a high of only 51 degrees, a sign of some colder temperatures heading in our direction.

After the cold front moves through our area, winds will increase out of the northwest. That’s going to make Sunday feel quite chilly. Particularly during the first half of the day, winds will be blowing about 20 mph.

Saturday: Dry and mainly cloudy through midday. Showers move in late-day and continue through the evening. Early-morning temperatures will begin around 38 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 50s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach close to 57 degrees. Evening temperatures will head from the lower 50s to the upper 40s.

Sunday: Cloud cover early, breezy, then a bright afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will cool to about 31 degrees. Sunday will feel chilly with afternoon highs near 47 degrees. Evening temperatures will drop to the 30s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. Early-morning temperatures will be close to 30 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to about 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 40s.

Tuesday will become much warmer, but increasing warmth and humidity will lead a risk of thunderstorms late Tuesday. For the rest of Northeast Michigan’s weather forecast, watch the latest weather video by clicking the weather tab at the top of the page.
