Second Chance Animal Shelter Finally Opens After Three Years of Delays

Second Chance Animal Shelter is open after three years of persistence and determination. “Second chance started several years ago when a group of animal lovers decided we needed another option for the animals in our community,” Treasurer of Second Chance Leanne Bloom said. 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year. “We actually have an adoption event coming up here on the 22nd,” Shelter Manager Tiffany McDonald said. “We are going to be hosting a low-cost microchip clinic on the 22nd as well, and that’s four in anticipation of the 4th of July, which the most animals go missing on that day,’ said Bloom.

Approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. “So, we have some exciting fundraisers that go on. One of their biggest ones is Second Chance Resale Shop, which right now we are expanding as we’ve had such great community support with donations and people coming in shopping. All the funds raised through the store go to help us with various things we need for the shelter, medicine for the animal’s care and anything they may need,” Bloom said. If you would like to support second Chance here are so e more resources:

“With our shelter manager Tiffany McDonald just starting, we are now able to house cats/kittens at the building as well as have them with our fosters. This allows us to help more animals and make it easier for people to meet an animal they may be interested in adopting. We are waiting on final state approval yet to be able to intake/house dogs,” Bloom said.
Open to the public hours for meeting our adoptables are Tuesdays from 11-1 and Saturdays from 11-4 and we can also make appointments that work for peoples schedules outside of those times.
