IOSCO COUNTY, Mich. — The Iosco Sheriff’s Office wants residents to keep an ear out for imposters.

Captain Brian Golden told WBKB multiple people have reported phone calls claiming to be from the sheriff’s office. The caller reportedly tells people they have a warrant after missing a subpoena.

Captain Golden said these calls are obvious scams because the Sheriff’s Office only serves warrants in–person.

However, he added that this phone scam oddly doesn’t ask for anything from victims.

“I don’t know if they’re looking for personal information. But there’s been no inquiries of any kind of monetary payment or anything. They’re basically just putting undue stress on the people they’re calling.”

Golden said the scammer uses multiple dummy phone numbers, which makes them difficult to track down.

If you receive one of these scam calls, Golden said you should hang up and avoid providing any personal information.
