Salvation Army Seeking Volunteers, and Families in Need for Christmas Assistance Program

The Salvation Army of Alpena is currently accepting volunteers for the upcoming December Christmas Assistance program.

Volunteers will be assisting in this year’s food basket packaging and toys for kid’s angel tree. Volunteers can sign up now until December 20th.

The Salvation Army of Alpena will also be signing up families who will be needing assistance with the holidays this year.

The Christmas Assistance sign up will start on Tuesday November 1st until Friday November the 4th.

Salvation Army captain, Amy Cedervall said families in need this year will be required to show proof of ID and birth certificates for children who will need toys this Christmas.

“Anyone that wants to come in and sign up for assistance needs to bring a photo id and then they need to have some form of identification for anyone that’s in the household. For children who are going to be on the list for gifts we need to have a birth certificate or proof of guardianship something along those lines. Just so we can know and have ideas for the angel tree…gift ideas for us to know what to look for, for your children,” Cedervall said.

The Christmas Assistance sign up is for Alpena County residents only.

The Christmas clients will receive a food basket with enough food for a holiday dinner, and extra items. The toys are for newborns to 17 years of age.

If you would like to volunteer, and bring in food items to help a family out, you can bring in food items including stuffing, canned gravy, rolls, cream of mushroom soup, canned cranberry sauce, boxed potatoes and desserts.
