Rogers City Community & Senior Center Seeking Donations for Roof Repair
The Senior Center in Rogers City is petitioning the community to help fix their roof. We are outside of the Senior Center in Rogers City, where they are addressing some problems with their roof. “We have a roof that is leaking and in need of replacement, it’s not a matter of repair. It’s a matter of replacing the entire membrane roof and the decking underneath it because it no longer meets the standards of the current laws. So, we have to replace everything. I’m looking for community support here to help us get this roof replaced so that we can continue all these wonderful services that we have here at the center. Hopefully, we can garner enough donations so that we can get this done this fall and be back in full operation next summer,” Senior center Board Member Karen Meyers said.
This is a problem that definitely needs addressing. “Well, probably at least two years ago, we used to exercise in our bigger room. And of course, that meant we had a lot more space for more people. It began to leak, and they said it’s not really safe to be over there because of the, you know, the leakage and the slips and falls and so forth. So, we moved out to this room, at times in this room, we probably had as many as thirty people for the exercise class. And unfortunately, it’s not big enough and it gets quite tight in here for the people. So, I think we’ve lost some of our people just because of not having the bigger area,” Senior Center Volunteer Ken Leppert6 said. The senior center of Rogers City could use all the community support that they can get. “Once we get this roof replaced on this building, we will be able to use it for many activities for seniors and community. We rent it out and we also give it to people to use for their activities. We have Boy Scouts that have meetings here. We have church groups that have meetings here. We have dinners, said Meyers.
