Rogers City begins work on Michigan Mainstreet
ROGERS CITY, Mich. — Rogers City took its first steps in the Michigan Mainstreet program on Monday.
In Zoom meetings throughout the day residents representing various groups in the city spoke directly with the Mainstreet team.
These discussions— part of the baseline assessment— focused on visions for the downtown area, as well as the needs of community members. Groups included small business owners, environmental non–profits, and even the schools. Mayor Scott McLennan told WBKB he’s especially proud of the students’ participation.
“It’s about bringing students downtown. It’s about students showing their artwork and job shadowing and doing training programs. Really, taking pride in their community.”
McLennan said the inter-generational angle is important because those same students will inherit the city in a few years.
The next step in the baseline assessment is a community survey, available starting January 3
