Rogers City baseball looking for more

ROGERS CITY, Mich. — Last Saturday, the Rogers City Hurons baseball team pulled off a huge upset, beating third-ranked Johannesburg-Lewiston 2-1 to win their first district crown in six years. Now the Hurons shift their focus to regionals. Gilpin Memorial Field will be packed with Snowbird and Huron fans this Wednesday as Rogers City collides with No. 19, Gaylord St. Mary.

Last Saturday the Snowbirds dominated in districts. In the semifinal game, Gaylord St. Mary blanked Wolverine 19-0. Shortly after that, the Snowbirds brought their hot bats into the finals as they cruised past Onaway, winning 12-1 to win their district.

Going into this game, Rogers City’s confidence level is super high. However, they know that nailing the basics on both ends of the diamond is crucial if they want to take down the Snowbirds.

“We have a lot of confidence going in,” said infielder Drew Flewelling. “Obviously we have to come in and play. We just have to keep each other amped up and just carry the momentum.”

The first pitch for Wednesday’s regional semifinal game is set for 4:30 p.m.
