Rain arriving early Thursday; Cold temperatures until the weekend

Mostly cloudy skies have persisted over our area all day. Rain currently over Wisconsin and Illinois will be moving into our area tomorrow morning. The center of the storm system is located well south, over Kansas. A disturbance generating rainfall extends north from that storm system into Minnesota — that disturbance is heading in our direction.

A nearly-stationary boundary is dividing very warm air from cool air currently in our area. High temperatures today heated up to 91 degrees in Indianapolis, 71 degrees in Detroit, 54 degrees in Alpena, and 48 degrees in Marquette. This boundary will stay to our south, acting like a wall, blocking much warmer air from reaching Northern Michigan. High temperatures tomorrow afternoon will once again get to the middle 50s in our area.

Overnight low temperatures will cool to the middle 40s under cloudy skies. Showers will move in tomorrow morning, and periods of rain will continue in the afternoon. High temperatures will reach only the middle 50s with light winds from the east.

Rainfall amounts through tomorrow night will likely total 0.25-0.5 inches. The chance of showers will decrease tomorrow evening-overnight.

Tomorrow will be wet and cool, showers are likely and temperatures will be below normal for early October. Friday will start with cool temperatures, near 40 degrees for the early-morning low. Friday afternoon will be brighter with highs in the lower 50s. Dry weather will continue for most of Saturday, then showers are possible in the evening. High temperatures will get gradually warmer over the weekend, reaching the upper 50s on Saturday, then the middle 60s on Sunday.

Taking a look at last month, September was slightly warmer and wetter than normal. All of the daily high temperatures averaged to 71 degrees. The average of all the low temperatures throughout the month was 50 degrees. Rainfall was greater than normal by about a half-inch.
