Post pandemic weddings and events on the rise as local vendors see more customers

ALPENA, Mich. – The pandemic put a lot of people’s wedding plans in limbo in 2020, but as more people get vaccinated, future brides are starting to say “Yes to the dress” and area vendors are more than happy for the uptick.

“We’ve had a lot more traffic coming in,” said co-owner of Glitz and Glamour Bridal and Gifts Cathy Wilson.

Wilson who’s been running the business for 16 years says the increase in business during the pandemic is refreshing.

“It’ll be a lot better than what it was last year,” said Wilson.

And event experts agree.

Wedding specialists are reporting more people are preparing for weddings and events in the next half of 2021 as the pandemic lessens.

Including brides right here in town.

“They’re planning on October weddings they’re hoping by then everybody is vaccinated so they can have a larger group,” said Wilson.

Local event spaces are also enjoying getting back to business.

According to one Alpena bride area spaces are already well booked into the summer.

While many couples are watching the latest COVID numbers before they move forward, Wilson adds that safety is now an important part of celebrations just as much as the dress.

“It’s hard, it’s hard on everybody, but just enjoy your day,” said Wilson.

Wilson offered one tip for brides and prom goers. She said to make sure dresses, tuxedos, and other items are ordered at least 3 to 6 months in advance to avoid any mishaps.
