POSEN, MI- If scoring 1,000 points was easy, they would not make a big deal about it. So when Posen Junior Ella Szatkowski converted a layup for her 1,000th career point, the game rightfully took pause.
The 58-28 win over Hale was simply a side note to what was a tremendous accomplishment for the Vikings star. She came into the night only needing four points. It was a matter of when not if, and she had plenty of support and fans throughout the building held up “Ella 1000″ signs, just waiting for the number to be it.
With her family and what seemed to be the entire Posen student body in the crowd, it was a special night for Szatkowski. ” It was really exciting having everyone there supporting me, I was really glad I was able to do this at home” said the Posen junior.
She was joined on the court by a few former coaches and her teammates after the 1,00oth point, her current coach, Eric Hincka was clear in the fact that this was no accident. ” You do not do this by picking up the ball in November and putting it down in March. You got to play, you got put time in and she did” said the first year Viking coach, whos daughter is also a member of the 1,000 point club at Posen.
Having played on the varsity since eighth grade and with still another year and a half to go, who knows the scoring numbers that Ella Szatkowski will put up as a Posen Viking.
