Oscoda wildfire continues to burn

OSCODA, Mich.– The National Forest Service branch for Huron-Manistee said Friday the wildfire has grown to over 6,000 acres.

The blaze began early on Friday as a controlled burn, meant to improve the habitat and remove fuel for wildfires.

Now, over 65 residents in the immediate area, including the Sid Town and Wilber Powerline zones, have been evacuated to the Tawas Community Center.

Eight departments are currently fighting this fire under the direction of the Forest Service and Tawas City fire.
