Oscoda, Alcona shine in season debuts

OSCODA, Mich. — Posen and Oscoda girls basketball are two successful programs from the North Star League. Last season, both teams took home a district title and a conference championship. Both teams collided Monday night in Oscoda. Home court advantage was the difference maker in this one as the Owls went on to beat the Vikings 52-41.

Izzy Hulverson led the Owls in the scoring department with 14 points. Macy Kellstrom added 12 points and Jessica Montgomery finished with 11 points. Ella Szatkowski had a solid game for the Vikings as she led the charge with 10 points. Both teams hit the road this Thursday. Oscoda (1-0) will head to Mio (0-1) to battle the Thunderbolts, while Posen (0-1) will square off against the Hillman Tigers.

ALCONA, Mich. — For the first time since 2018, the Alcona Tigers girls basketball team walked off the court victorious in their season opener. Monday, the Tigers cruised past the Thunderbolts winning 47-13.

Alcona got off to a fast start in this one. Lily Bilbey scored eight of her 12 points in the first quarter to help the Tigers put the game out of reach. Karen Sharboneau contributed with nine points and Rachel Layton finished with seven points.
