Northland Federal CU wins Cal Ripken Minor Baseball league championship.
ALPENA, Mich. – The Northland Area Federal CU won the Cal Ripken Minor Baseball championship 12-9. Northland got going in the top of the fifth inning when Johnny Hahn ripped a shot into right-field. The right-fielder could not handle it cleanly, which would tack on a run.
A few batters later, a pop-fly dropped into the infield and the pitcher made a great play. Then the pitcher went for the out, but an error at first allowed Joshua Dietrich to slide in and score. Northland tallied up four runs in the inning.
“One of the kids said, ‘we’re not going to make it’, and I just said, ‘let’s keep a good attitude.'” said Dietrich. “So we all started getting points and making plays. We came through!”
