Northern Lights parade makes stunning return

ALPENA, Mich. — The Northern Lights parade made its triumphant return to Oscoda Saturday night.

Spectators lined the streets to get a glimpse of the community floats decked out in holiday lights. Nancy Howse, Executive Director of the Oscoda Chamber, said the crowd was so large the warming station actually ran out of chili!

17 floats took part in the parade, as well as a veterans’ honor guard and the high school marching band.

Howse was kind enough to share some of the winners with us.

“‘Best in Glow’ was a unanimous vote for the Oscoda Lions Club because they had Santa Claus. ‘Most Creative’ float went to the Edelweiss Tavern in Downtown Oscoda. And ‘Most Magical’ went to the Kids First learning center which serves Iosco County.”

After the parade, families enjoyed a free showing of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” at the Lake Theatre.

We look forward to seeing Oscoda’s creativity again next year.
