Northeast Michigan’s “Little Bronner’s of the North”

The Christmas season is in full swing, and if you’re a little behind on decorating for some Christmas cheer, don’t worry. Prattscapes in Alpena has you covered. From all sorts of different figurines to full on Christmas trees with different themes, whatever you may need, it’s probably at Prattscapes.

Doug Pratt is the owner of the antique and gift store, and he has been aiding the northeast Michigan area in finding the holiday décor they need for 12 years now. He started with a garden store, but needed something for the winter.

“Christmas is just very important to me as a person, and so, you just talk so much about family, people getting together, special meals, and going to church, and just dedicating time to the family, where before, we’re so busy, everybody’s going in different directions,” he said. “So, I just really like the idea that Christmas brings family together, inside from the cold, you play games, so we wanted something that would bring people in for that reason.”

Pratt bought 10 Christmas trees to sell, and now has over 60 currently in the store. The trees have different themes as well, including sports and branches of the military. Pratt takes pride in running a store that people enjoy coming to.

“It is so cool, because unlike if you owned, say, a car repair place, everybody comes in, they’re upset,” he said. “Something is wrong with the car; they have to spend money they don’t have to spend. They come in here happy and excited, just looking for that special gift or unique thing for somebody; they’re always in a great mood. So, that’s just a cool store to have, everybody walks into, they’re always happy.”

Prattscapes is the second largest Christmas themed store in the country, second only to the notorious Bronner’s, and Pratt enjoys being able to provide a personal touch that Bronner’s, or even the national chain stores might not be able to.

“They have it there if you have the ability to do it, you’ve got the merchandise, but you don’t know how to do it,” he said. “So I think that’s the big thing that we add.”

Prattscapes is located in the Harborside Mall, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am top 5pm.
