‘Nonspecific Threat’ Found at Local Elementary School: APS Release Statement

Alpena Public Schools Press Release: April 27, 2017: Threat Investigated at Ella White Elementary

Shortly before dismissal today, a nonspecific threat was discovered in a bathroom stall at Ella White Elementary. In consultation with law enforcement, the decision was made to evacuate all students and staff to the far edge of the playground for the final minutes of the day.
Students were then dismissed to busses and parents on schedule.

The building was then secured with the assistance of law enforcement. A visual scan of the building is currently being conducted and Michigan State Police will also be onsite.

All events at Ella White are cancelled. Kindergarten Registration scheduled for this evening has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 16th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

This threat was determined to be non-credible. However, precautionary measures were taken to insure the safety of students and staff, and we are continuing to work with law enforcement.

Alpena Public Schools will make every effort to identify the individual responsible and hold them accountable in accordance with district policy.
Should additional information become know, Alpena Public Schools will keep Ella White families and staff, as well as our community, informed through media releases, social media post, robocalls and/or our web page.
