New Exhibit at Besser Museum Tackles the Full History of Northeast Michigan
The new Discover History of Northeast Michigan exhibit at Besser Museum is under construction. “Designing this exhibit has been so much fun. We’ve been working with local educators, historians and artists. We’ve been working with the Anishinaabe from across northeast Michigan and throughout Michigan, really to bring to Alpena the story of northeast Michigan, including the Anishinaabe story. So, some of my favorite parts are the kid friendly elements. We’ve been working with Split Rock Studios to ensure that this is going to be an immersive, family friendly experience for everyone,” Director at Besser Museum Christine Witulski said.
So much thought, preparation and effort has gone into this endeavor to create an educational and yet artistic and fun experience for all ages. “3,000 square feet of exhibit space to create the new Discover Northeast Michigan History exhibit that will take visitors from the Big Bang to big industry. This walk through immersive, family-friendly exhibit is going to have something for everyone, from our littlest learners to our oldest learners,” Witulski said. Even the builders and their crews are excited to be a part of the process. “The level that this is going to be is going to be higher than what you would expect in a small-town museum. It’s going to be something like you would see in Grand Rapids or Detroit or something along those lines. So, I think the community is going to be very impressed with what they’re working on here,” “This community project is really being funded by everyone from foundations to grants to private donors. It’s really a legacy project that is transforming not just the museum but the history that we’re bringing to everyone about northeast Michigan. And if you want to be a part of this legacy project, you can donate $500 or more by September 15 to ensure that your name is on the donor board. Another way you can help us if you’re unable to give, follow us on Facebook and share our posts,” said Witulski.
