New Dementia Friends program at the Alpena Senior Center

ALPENA, MI. – The Alpena Senior Center is hosting a program that will educate our community on how to best care for loved ones with Dementia.

“Awareness is huge. When you have Dementia, people have a tendency to not want to talk about it, but it is so important to get the resources you need.” said BJ Sander, Alpena Senior Center program manager.
The Alzheimer’s Association developed Dementia Friends, a global movement. After an invitation from the Association, The Alpena Senior Center will host the program Dementia Friends here in our community.

Sander said she is eager to see people learn more about the issue. “The goal is to get everyone in the community to understand how Dementia affects people and how we can make their lives better in Alpena. They need to be understood and supported and we want to help by creating dementia friends in Alpena County.”
On June 15 from 4–5pm , community members have an opportunity to learn more about Dementia and ways to assist those living with it.If you are interested in the program, you can contact the senior center at (989) 356-3585.
