Multiple departments put out DPI fire

ALPENA, Mich. — Fire crews extinguished a structure fire at Decorative Panels International on Saturday.

City of Alpena Fire Chief Bill Forbush says fire crews arrived at DPI shortly after 9 AM.

The fire started in the plant’s cooker tower. Forbush said normal operations caused the fire, but the day’s hot and dry conditions made it stronger than usual. Alpena’s department received support from Maple Ridge and Presque Isle, and wrapped up operations around noon.
