Mother says son didn’t behave differently before disappearance

ALPENA, Mich. — 15–year–old Sammy Redfield has been missing since December 22, when he climbed into a black GMC truck during lunch period at Onaway High School.

His adoptive mother Dawn Redfield describes him as a kid with a good heart, good manners, and a laidback attitude.

She said Sam’s behavior didn’t seem any different during the previous night or morning of his disappearance.

“The night before, he and I and some friends went to Alpena to do some shopping and it was a normal shopping day. We picked out some things for his room and things he needed for school… [The next day] he helped me haul some stuff into the classroom where I was subbing and he went to his class.”

Dawn said Sammy struggled with substance abuse for several years, but was making progress towards recovery. She told WBKB she doesn’t understand why he got in that truck, but wants him to know she loves him.

“I’m behind him. I do love him. I really care about him. I don’t want him getting hurt out there and I want him to be safe. Call me and I’ll come and get you. Wherever you are.”

Sammy is 5’7″ and was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and white sneakers. Dawn believes he may be traveling to Florida or Tennessee to see his birth family.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is advised to call Rogers City Police at (989) 734-2330.
