MLK Committee to discuss Dr. King’s beloved community and philosophy of nonviolence

ALPENA, Mich. — This month, the MLK Committee of Northeast Michigan will read about Creating the Beloved Community that was at the core of what Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted for this country. Creating a Beloved Community was in many of Rev. Dr. King’s writings throughout his lifetime. Nonviolence was foundational in Rev. Dr. King’s work for justice in this country and how he saw the Beloved Community achieved. His Six Principles of Nonviolence Philosophy and the Six Steps of Nonviolent Social Change will be discussed and how they might be useful for communities today.
