Mister Roberts Showing at Alpena Civic Theater

If you and your family need something to do this weekend and are looking to get out of the house during this winter weather, you can warm up at the Alpena Civic Theater.

Now until Sunday the theater will be showing the dramatic comedy, Mister Roberts. Based off the novel, Mister Roberts, the play later became a film in 1955, winning numerous academy awards.

The film starred Henry Fonda, James Cagney, and Jack Lemmon. If you love navy ships and war, this is the play for you.

Director Pat Jacques said Alpena is unique when it comes to having theater as a major impact in such a small town.

“Alpena has a remarkable amount of culture, and we have a very sophisticated audience. We have our regulars, and we draw in others as well, but for a small town in Northern Michigan to have two full time operating theaters…the college produces stuff and so does the high school masters club, that’s a lot of drama for a town the size of this. So I have to tip my hat to Alpena and it’s appreciation of culture,” Jacques said.

If you would like to see this historical comedy, Mister Roberts is showing tonight, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:30 pm. Sunday’s show is at 2 pm.

The Alpena Civic Theater is also looking for volunteers for their next show, called, ‘You Can’t Take it With You,’ coming in march.

If you’re interested in being apart of that show please contact the theater at 989–354–3624.
