Mio starts new year with win; Hillman troubled with free throws

HILLMAN, MI — For the first Northeast Michigan high school basketball game of 2019, the Hillman Tigers girls squad hosted the Mio Thunderbolts. Mio took control from the start, especially from the arc and free throw line making 14 of 18 from the charity strike.

The Thunderbolts topped the Tigers 46-34 for their third win of the season. Hillman lost by 12, and to put that in perspective, the Tigers missed 12 free throws. Three of Mio’s starters scored in double-digits, Claudia Wilson, Rickett and Kuffel. The Thunderbolts made six 3-pointers. Brooke Jones led Hillman with 10 points.
