ALPENA, Mich.– MidMichigan Health took their vaccines on the road Friday.

MidMichigan doctors and nurses packed up vaccines and loaded them in vans Friday morning. Their plan: to administer vaccines to home-bound Alpena residents. Health Center president Chuck Sherwin said the team provided 60 vaccines over the course of the day.

Sherwin added that the team was glad to provide not just the vaccine, but also some human contact.

“For some of them, we were kind of the first people that they’d seen– outside of maybe a home care nurse or somebody dropping off a meal to them.”

Sherwin said Northeast Michigan is slightly ahead of schedule for vaccinations, but we still have a ways to go before reaching herd immunity.

Just over 40% of Alpena County residents are vaccinated.
