Michigan golf courses, marinas can reopen with coronavirus restrictions

MICHIGAN — Earlier today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order to extend her “Stay Home Stay Safe” order until May 15th. It requires all citizens to wear protective masks out in public. However, there have been a few changes. With the order Whitmer signed, this eases on some restrictions.

The order will allow motorized boating and golf courses to open back up, but will still have to practice social distancing. For golf, the only way you can play is if you are walking. Golf carts are not allowed at this time. Clubhouse Manager of the Alpena Golf Club Tom Lahner says he’s happy to be back in business, but the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting many golf clubs.

“We certainly need it for business,” said Lahner. “A lot of people are looking forward to just hitting the golf ball and getting some fresh air. The downfall is that a number of people don’t prefer walking. However, it’s good to be open.”

The Alpena Golf Club opens tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. To read more information on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order, click on the link below.
