Memorial Day ceremonies kickoff at Alpena Courthouse
ALPENA, Mich. – Alpena residents along with community leaders kicked off Memorial Day 2021 with a courthouse ceremony early Monday.
Veteran, Major General Burton Francisco was the guest speaker.
Local youth groups participated too as area Veterans told stories about the sacrifices service members made to keep our country safe.
One Veteran said we can never forget the fallen, but we also must remember every industry worker behind the scenes that made it possible for people to serve.
“Even our Americans that don’t serve, they work in factories, they help support us, they’re the support that we had behind us as we protect our freedom,” said event organizer Jerry Burton from a member of the Marine Corps League and VFW 2496.
The ceremony wrapped up about 10 a.m. and participants moved onto Little Flanders Field.
