Mason Bray and Eldon Humphry compete in final Alpena home wrestling meet

ALPENA, MI – It was the final home wrestling meet of the year for the Alpena Wildcats. Alpena hosted a quad meet featuring Onaway, Saginaw Heritage, and Gaylord. The meet also doubled as Parents Night as the Wildcats honored their two Seniors who are set to graduate in the Spring, Mason Bray and Eldon Humphrey.

Alpena’s first match was against Onaway where Mason Bray had his one and only match of the day where he picked up the win by points. Eldon Humphrey got one win on the day by pinfall against Onaway while suffering a pinfall loss to Heritage.

Mason Bray still only has one loss on his record this year and has qualified for States for the second year in a row. Mason wrestled for all four years of High School at Alpena, but has only wrestled two years for current head coach Matt Kowalski. However, Matt has known mason even prior to becoming the wrestling coach, he’s incredibly proud of how Mason improved over the years.

Bray plans to continue wrestling into his college career, and he will also be graduating alongside fellow Senior teammate Eldon Humphrey. Humphrey plans to go to college to study criminal justice, and really enjoyed the one year he spent with Alpena after moving from Hale to compete as a Senior. Coach Kowalski said he really wish he could’ve had Eldon on the team longer but he’s proud of how hard he work in just one year.

Now the focus for the whole Alpena Wrestling squad is preparing for Districts in a couple weeks. Best of luck to all the guys in the rest of their remaining meets.
