Local restaurant owner offers meals to those in need

ALPENA, Mich.– Mike Anderson, owner of “Big Mike’s Pizza,” plans on giving back to the community this week.

He and his crew provide meals to people in need, especially those with mobility issues, every thanksgiving season.

The meals include ham, potatoes, stuffing, and a desert.

Anderson said he runs the program because he thinks it’s the right thing to do.

“I would just hope that if it was me down on my luck, somebody would help me. So, kinda just, doing what i can do for others.”

Anderson said he and his volunteers take quite a bit of time getting the dinners ready.

“It’s a little bit different, man. It’s a lot slower. A pizza takes seven minutes. A ham or a turkey takes three or four hours. So, it’s a little bit different, a little slower pace.”

Anderson and his crew prepare 50 to 60 meals a year. 21 spots are still open.

If you need food assistance this Thanksgiving, call Anderson’s restaurant at (989) 340–0898.
