Local Girl Scouts Take a Tour of WBKB News

WBKB News Station was a full house last weekend as Girl Scouts from around Northeast Michigan took a tour to see what news is all about. If you ever wondered what goes on here at WBKB News, a group of local girl scouts could probably tell you.

Last weekend the girls got a taste of the day and the life of news. Touring the station, Girl Scout leader, Bonnie Shaw said she was amazed at how much work goes into a 30-minute show.

“I think it’s very interesting. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I mean I watch TV all the time, but that is as far as it goes. It was very interesting,” Shaw said.

Trooper, Melody Rigsby said the station gave her hope of having a future career as a reporter.

“I’ve always wanted to come here and actually see how it feels to be sitting up at the desk and have lights in your eyes, to see how you guys feel up here,” Rigsby said.

Shaw added that the tour helped encourage the girls and reminds them that they can be anything that they want to be in life.

“Well with the chances women have nowadays, you can do anything that you want. The more experience that you have by learning about different things; you can choose when you’re ready to be able to go into those fields. So I think this is one of the best fields that they can learn about. If their interested in doing public things like this, this is how they learn, and get an idea,” Shaw said.

All in all it was a wonder day teaching the young ladies what goes down at WBKB News, and what life is like daily for me as a reporter anchor.
