Local business celebrates National Pretzel Day by giving back to veterans

Alpena, Mich. — It’s National Pretzel Day, and one local shop is celebrating in a patriotic way.

Ben’s Soft Pretzel in Meijer is helping out veterans by accepting donations as low as a dollar. In return folks could get a jumbo pretzel.

“We get involved with it because we really enjoy helping the vets,” said Ben’s Soft Pretzel employee Rich Oliver. “Last year, Ben’s corporation itself, we donated, among all the franchisees, we did a little over $25,000 for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes.”

Donations will go toward the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which helps veterans dealing with the invisible wounds of war like post traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury. If you would like to donate on Saturday, donations are still be accepted.
