Local Alpena Business Grows Nationally

Started by brothers Ralph and Shawn Inglis in 2003, F&T Fur Harvesters Trading is an outdoors shop on US–23 that offers outdoor gear, fur trappings and trapping services.

They started off on Bushey Street out on Hubbard Lake, and recently moved to a new location. While they operate locally, they serve customers from all over the country.

“It’s very unique to be dealing with everybody, cause right out of Alpena, and a lot of people are not even aware, they’re walking in and they’re saying, ‘when did you start business?’ we’ve been in business for over 20 years,” said Store Manager Harry Nestle. “Ralph and Shawn have really put their heart and soul into this company, and here we are today.”

While they have customers all over the United States, local products and employees are at the forefront of their business. Keeping that Alpena element is important to their store.

“People are coming from all over to see us, so it’s a great thing for Alpena, they’re coming up here and they’re spending their money here, and then they’re going to get something to eat, so it’s just a great thing,” said Nestle.

One thing that the store offers is trapping services, and they make it a point to hire local employees who have experience in that field.

“They can answer any questions, knowledgeable people,” said Nestle. “So you’re not just talking to somebody that hasn’t done it, and we know what the situations are.”

As the local northeast Michigan business continues to grow, maintaining a homegrown feel will always be important to them.
