Early Thursday morning, a Montmorency County sheriff’s deputy tried making a traffic stop on a 56-year-old Lewiston man.
The driver tried to flee and eventually his vehicle was disabled. As he tried to keep running on foot, he turned and fired a weapon at the deputy prompting more law enforcement to join the chase. It lead to County Road 491 where the suspect barricaded himself in a home.
Police were able to negotiate with him and get him to surrender. Johannesburg–Lewiston schools were closed out of an abundance of caution and there were no injuries reported.
The situation remains under investigation.
