Lady Wildcats close out the regular season with a tough loss to Gaylord 57-69

ALPENA, MI – It’s the final game of the regular season for the Lady Wildcats. Tonight, Alpena hosted the Gaylord Blue Devils who are tied for second place in the Big North rankings. These two teams will face off yet again on Monday for the first round of the playoffs but for now, let’s see how the season wrapped up for Alpena.

Tonight was also Senior’s Night as the Wildcats celebrated their four graduating seniors. Allison Urlaub, Jenna Leeck, Alayna Trelfa and Franciska Treiliha. A couple Senior Cheerleaders were also recognized tonight.

Getting into the game now. Gaylord with it and Molly Kinser finds Kennedy Neff in the corner. She fires a three and sinks it for Gaylord.

Now alpena with possession. Jenna Leeck gives it to Reese Wisniewski. She gets it back to Jenna who drives in, takes a foul and still drains the layup for the and–one.

Just two seconds left in the first quarter. Alpena inbounds it to Reese Wisniewski who tries from deep three-point range. She banks it off the glass and hits the buzzer beater three. A clutch shot from the sophomore to tie the game up.

Second quarter now. Blue Devils are moving the ball around. Meghan Keen finds Alexis Kozolwski in the paint and she’s got the open look to hit that layup with ease.

Alpena fast break now and Marah Wisniewski this time in the paint. She chucks it back out to the Senior Allison Urlaub. Allie for three and she gets it to go.

Alpena kept pace for a bit in the second quarter but Gaylord really turned on the jets as the rest of the game played out. Avery Parker tries a layup with the left hand and that one falls.

Second half now, Gaylord continues to move the ball with purpose. Alpena can’t keep up as Kennedy Neff gets it back in the corner. Tries for a three to take a double digit lead, got that one as well.

The offense of Gaylord just kept clicking the rest of the game while Alpena just couldn’t keep pace. A nice pass to Meghan kKeen in the paint from Maddie Gohl. Meghan sinks the layup and the Blue Devils get the win tonight.

It wasn’t how the Lady wildcats would’ve like to end their season as Gaylord walks away with the victory 57–69. Now for Alpena, revenge is the only thing on their mind and with the chance to eliminate Gaylord in the first round of the playoffs on Monday, that revenge win could be oh so sweet.
