Hubbard Lake woman steals former employee’s debit card numbers

HUBBARD LAKE, Mich. — A Hubbard Lake woman is facing charges for stealing a colleague’s personal information.

The Michigan State Police says Crystal Cameron Long used her former employee’s debit card number to make payments on her car loan for more than a year. However, her victim finally caught on in August of 2021 when she noticed something was amiss on her bank statements. She then took the information to the State Police, who tracked down the culprit and issued a warrant in November.

MSP Lieutenant Derrick Carroll said this tale is an example of why you should keep a close eye on your account.

“People need to realize that in this day and age we have a lot of automatic transactions. We make them to service providers, on loans, and on mortgages. Make sure you review those monthly statements.  And if you see any irregularities, be sure to notify your banking institution immediately.”

Long turned herself in on January 12 and is currently out on bond. She was arraigned on Monday for illegal use of a financial transaction device.
