Home Invasion Suspect Killed, Name Released

Police have released the name of the 21–year–old that was shot and killed during a home invasion in Tawas City Sunday night.

The suspect, Jesse Allen Odell, was an Oscoda resident. State records also indicate that Odell was on probation for a drug–related crime at the time of his death.

The investigation is still underway on the incident that happened Sunday night on the 800th block of Fur Street in Tawas City. Troopers from the Michigan State Police west branch post responded to a call of rifle shots being fired and a man going door to door with a gun.

The initial investigation revealed the subject was going door-to-door seeking help regarding a home invasion.

According to police, while in his home the sixty-six-year-old male was confronted by two suspects both armed with hunting knives and wearing masks, attempting to rob him. The resident shot both men in his home with a rifle. The homeowner was uninjured and police say he is cooperating with investigators as more evidence is gathered.

The investigation will be submitted to the Iosco County prosecutor for review.
