ALPENA, Mich.,–Exposing students to new career paths should always be combined with skill development. Hinks Elementary School hosted a career day for students to learn real-world professions.

For the first time, Hinks Elementary had a career day for students where several guest speakers came in to share their professions.

“We had an artist here that showed different types of work,” said Apollo from the second grade.

“I am a vet because I really love animals and I really would like to take care of animals and make them healthy,” added Myranda from the fifth grade.

School officials wanted to host a career day to get them thinking about their future at an earlier age.

Second-grade teacher, Carey Styma said, “we want children to walk away understanding that anything is possible and if they have a certain interest, they are inspired by someone, and if they work towards that, they should attain their goal.”

Because of the impact it had on the students, Hinks Elementary School hopes to continue career day in the future.
