Highlights from maritime research collection coming to Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

The maritime collection features thousands of photographs and pieces of information from Great Lakes Vessels.

Alpena — The maritime research collection at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library will come alive on Thursday, September 27.

Library Researcher Marlo Broad will present some of the highlights of the vast collection, featuring thousands of photographs and pieces of information on different maritime vessels from the Great Lakes. Broad has helped develop this special collection over the past 17 years. The amount information draws researchers and enthusiasts from all over.

“We have researchers from all over the world who are interested in that collection, and the George N. Fletcher Library Collection is particularly well recognized,” said Katie Wolf, Director of Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. “It’s nationally and internationally, so they attract people from all different aspects of maritime research there.”

Broad will also discuss how people can access the information and take a look at the collection for themselves.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. The lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. For more information call the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary at 989-884-6200.
