Heartbreaking Overtime loss for the Wildcats 49-42

ALPENA, MI -The lady Wildcats returned home recently from a two game road trip with two straight dominating wins. Now back in Alpena, the Wildcats would have their first Big North Conference matchup against the Cadillac Vikings. While Alpena coming into this game has won two straight, Cadillac has lost two straight games.

A lot took place in this one with the Vikings pulling ahead in the first quarter. First with the Vikings on a fast break, waiting the corner like a hawk is Joslyn Sseeley. She’s fires from three-point range and hits it for Cadillac. Alpena would struggle early in the first quarter.

The second quarter, however, had the Wildcats turning up the heat. Reese Wisniewski with the ball, makes the bounce pass to Jenna Leeck. She’s gets the opening for the layup and hits it.

Now Leeck is gonna make a bounce pass of her own, and get taken off her feet as she passes it. The ball still finds Marah Wisniewski and she gets the layup on a great assist from Leeck.

Cadillac was shut out in the second quarter and made it a point to fight back after halftime. Ashlyn Lundquist makes a great overhead pass to Anna Whipple and she’s got the lane to put that one through for two.

Now Alpena with possession. Allison Uurlaub driving in ends up pulling up from midrange, shooting with a hand in her face. Not a problem as the ball goes off the backboard and rolls in for two.

Urlaub is going to get it again on another Wildcats play. She pump fakes in the corner then steps up inside the line and fires another two pointer and hits it again.

Allison Urlaub will try again for another mid-range shot but this one won’t fall. However, Jenna Leeck makes the play on the boards and gets the putback and draws a foul for the and–one. Leeck led Alpena in scoring with 13 points.

Alpena’s offense however started to run out of gas in the fourth as Cadillac would have four seconds to save the game, down by just three points. Madelyn Schamanek inbounds it to Joslyn Seeley wide open in the corner. She fires from three and hits the buzzer beater and this game will not end yet, we head to overtime.

Cadillac would ride the momentum of that great shot as Madelyn spins through the post and lays it up for the Vikings and Cadillac manages to pull it off.

An absolute heartbreaker of an ending for the Wildcats, going scoreless in OT as the Vikings pull off the comeback in spectacular fashion. Final score is 42–49. Alpena will wrap up 2021 with their last game before the new year on Monday against Sault Area High School.
