Harrisville approves marijuana ordinances

HARRISVILLE, Mich. — The City of Harrisville approved three ordinances pertaining to legal marijuana within the city limits Monday night.

Following the unanimous votes both medical and recreational marijuana facilities will be allowed within the city limits.

In addition council approved a zoning ordinance that laid out all of the rules and regulations needed for new marijuana businesses.

According to Harrisville Mayor Jeffrey Gehring there will now be a 15-day waiting period before full legalization takes place.

Gehring added that with some communities in Northeastern Michigan struggling financially, he did not want to miss out on an opportunity to bring additional revenue into Harrisville.

“It’s not a ton of money, and I’ve explained to people that the streets of Harrisville are not going to be paved in gold. But, again it’s going to be a stepping stone to develop things economically in Northeast Michigan and in Harrisville.”

Gehring says that he has already been approached by groups that are interested in investing in the marijuana industry within the city.
