Gretchen Whitmer Defeats Tudor Dixon, Secures Re-election for Governor of Michigan

Voters in Michigan have re-elected Governor Whitmer for a second term.

The democrat governor defeated her republican opponent Tudor Dixon in one of the most closely watched races in the country. In a statement sent out after the announcement, Campaign Manager Preston Elliot said, “Tonight, Michiganders across the state made their voices heard to re-elect Governor Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist so they can continue building on their historic progress investing in public education, strengthening infrastructure, fixing the damn roads, growing the economy, and defending reproductive freedom. Governor Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist are grateful for the overwhelming support of Michiganders from Monroe to Marquette and look forward to continuing to serve the great state of Michigan for four more years.”

As of 1:48 a.m. the Associated Press reports Whitmer has 51.7 percent of the vote (1,742,832) while Dixon sits at 46.6 percent (1,575,755).
