Girl Scouts of Alpena Journey Through Roles and Make Thanksgiving Cards for Seniors

The Girl Scouts of Alpena are gearing up to make someone smile for Thanksgiving. Earlier this week the junior scouts made Thanksgiving cards to send to the Senior Citizens Center. The cards will go out during meals on wheels.

Before making cards the girls participated in a journey playing roles, and becoming role models while learning how to break stereotypes.

Scout leader, Charlene Bilitzke said making cards for the seniors gives the girls a way to meet people in the community.

“In girl scouts they get a chance to be role models to others and they get to meet people out in the community as we reach out and find other people in the community to work with. We are influenced as girl scouts leaders by them, and they are influenced by us. We have a lot of girl scout mentors in the area that helped mentor us in becoming Girl Scouts leaders,” she said.

The junior girls scouts are 4th and 5th graders at Ella White. Other scout ages are brownies, which are second and 3–rd graders. Daisies are kindergartners and first graders.
