Girl Scouts Leaders Needed in the Alpena Area

The Girl Scouts of Alpena are looking for more scout leaders to volunteer their time.

There are currently 20 girl scouts who attend Ella White Elementary with dozens of other girls waiting on leaders in the area.

Scout leader, Chelsea Ross said Girl Scouts helped her throughout her life with leadership and social skills.

She is now working hard to get college girls to become leaders, to help out the young girls in the community.

“My mother was actually my Girl Scouts leader and I’ve learned throughout scouts various skills that I’ve brought into my college life and work life. So gaining leadership skills is essential for anyone. It doesn’t just take a mother, or a grandmother…but having someone there that maybe they can go to and talk to so that they feel more comfortable with and just getting more girls in the community that are you know college age. It’s good community service and great to you know show the girls and to have for your own personal benefits and gains,” Ross explained.

WBKB news previously reported that the junior scouts made thanksgiving cards for seniors to go out through the meals on wheels program.

Other scouts are currently making blankets and pillows to send to hospitals for newborn babies and patients for the upcoming Christmas holiday.
