Free winter gear in the Pocket Park- No questions asked

OSCODA, Mich. — The Oscoda Rotary Club is keeping the giving spirit alive past Christmas this winter.

People in need can pick up free scarves, gloves, and winter hats from the Rotary Club’s “Warming Corner”.

The tradition started last year with an idea: a place where people can get help without the stigma of visiting a soup kitchen or Salvation Army.

The Oscoda Rotary Club supported the idea and gave it space in their Pocket Park downtown.

While this act of kindness is in line with the Christmas season, Rotarian Mary Reitler says it will stay open as long as people need it.

“We will probably leave it up in the months of January and February. And probably into March. Last year we went into March- and it’s obviously weather-dependent, but in Michigan March is still a pretty cold month.”
