On Saturday night, 24–year old Ryan Manning, a former Hillman resident, was killed in a fatal car crash in North Dakota.
Manning had been residing in Watford, North Dakota at the time, and as he traveled eastbound down highway–23 around 9:00 pm that night, the driver of a westbound truck hauling a trailer jack–knifed.
Attempting to move out of the way of the trailer, Manning swerved but was unsuccessful as he hit the trailer head on, leaving he and his truck on the shoulder of the road where he was pronounced dead.
Manning had two passengers in his truck at the time that both survived him, but received injuries that sent them to a nearby hospital. One of the passengers was 27–year–old Tyler Barrie of Hillman, and the other was a 24–year old North Dakota resident. Funeral services for Mr. Manning will take place at the Bannon Funeral Home in Alpena.
