7th Annual Fish Frenzy Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament

The 7th annual Fish Frenzy Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament on Long Lake was Saturday, the Fourth, and the community showed up ready to fish and compete for the prizes. Kaitlynn Kowalski, Mrs. Fish Frenzy and an organizer of the event said, “I feel like it went amazing. We had 615 people signed up for the tournament today. It’s a little less than last year, but with the way that ice has been, we had to move the tournament. So great turn out for all the things that have happened.”

The event has been put on with the help of friends and family for seven years, and to see everyone from those fishing, to the sponsors helping, makes it that much more meaningful. Kowalski said, “It’s the most amazing feeling. Both Zac and I love Alpena. We love our community. We fish out on this lake.” She said, “It’s really important to us, and so to see all those sponsors that are area sponsors. To come together and give money so we can give away these prizes to everybody, it’s the best feeling to have everyone around.”

It wasn’t just the adults having fun and trying to win in the tournament, even the kids were fighting for first place in the kids’ walleye and perch divisions. Cruz Rousseau, winner of the kids walleye division, said, “It was a cool feeling. At first when one kid came over, he was running and I thought I had 19 inches and something. He had an 18, and I thought I had an 18 something, and I thought he beat me and I got scared.” He said, “Then we looked at it, and then that’s when I realized I got a 19 inch.
