Family Fun at the 8th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta

ALPENA- The Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center hosted the 8th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta for Alpena’s Fourth of July festivities. Paddlers competed in three divisions: Kids’ Paddle (10-14 year-old sailors), Crew of Two, and The Whole Crew-Group (minimum of 3 sailors to compete).
The Bear Claw guided by Jeff Weiler Jr. and Sr. won the overall event and took home the Admiral’s Award.
The Thunder Bay Theater paddled with 13 people on their boat. They sunk early, but the team had fun.

1st Place Class 1 (Kids Paddle) : Zibby 1
1st Place Class 3 (Crew of 2) : Bear Crew
1st Place Class 4 (Crew of 3 or more) : A Bad Idea
Pride of the Fleet Award (Most Well Engineered) : A Bad Idea
